King Mackerel Trips

Thursday, July 6th

We decided to take advantage of the good King Mackerel bite going-off now just about 6.3 miles SE of Rodanthe. We limited out both days and if you decide to go you will need the following:

A couple of good planer rods and pull a Bowed-Up Spoon color of red and white

Also, pull a couple of strip baits set a good distance behind your planer rod spread

When you hit the area where the bait stacks up, wait for large bait marks and start a circular troll around the bait pods.

These Kings are what we call snake Kings and are the smaller ones. You can keep 3 a day with a minimum fork length of 24 inches. This is not a catch and release type of fishery because a hooked King has a high mortality rate.

If you have any questions, just give me a call.
